Why Glen Phillips is the coolest man alive

If you don't know who Glen Phillips is, then piss off to another blog. Here's ten reasons why His Glen-ness rules:
1: His band was called Toad the Wet Sprocket. Brilliant. All you Monty Python fans will know Rock Notes by heart. Glen clearly did.
2: Is a hippy without being annoying about it. Has as many global concerns as the next tree-hugger, but is very laid back about it.
3: Happily married with three kids. Speaks volumes of the man that he tours Europe with his family.
4: Knows ALL the chords. Not just the easy ones, but knows the fruity jazz ones and the weirdo-dropped D-capo tuning shit as well. Not afraid to use them in pop songs either, but without being a wanker.
5: Released his first album when he was 16, but it wasn't crap. John Mayer anyone?
6: Released a DVD CD. All of the songs off the album 'Abulum' (buy this immediately if you haven't already) in fifty thousand bit digital trickery. Play the song Train Wreck with the lights off (see number 7) and you would swear his band are in your living room. Has all sorts of extra features as well. Ace stuff.
7: Wrote Train Wreck. Brilliant song, disarmingly simple and by turns sad and hopeful. The instrumental finish is The Shit.
8: Is happy to allow websites to host his unreleased material and demos. He just wants people to hear his stuff, and he's not a prick about it being all over the world wide web.
9: Joins heaps of other people and forms cool bands, but doesn't have to be the main guy. Happy to be in the background adding his musical distinctiveness to anyone who asks.
10: Not afraid to try new stuff. His music has evolved constantly since he started, and who knows what he will do next.

Go to his website www.glenphillips.com and check this guy out. Buy Abulum and Winter Pays For Summer, go to one of his intimate concerts when he hits a town near you.

  2. Toad kicks bottom! Their album Coil is their best if you don't already have it, it's a totally 'complete' album.
They're almost as good as Phatyl Hamsta, the kings of Porno Funk. I'm hoping 2009 will be the year that "Lick My Lovepump" will take off on iTunes
